My First Long Ride on the Bakfiets Cargo Bike

12:45 PM

A few weeks ago I decided to take the kids to Allaire State Park. I wanted to see if I could physically do it, and how long the ride would take me. It's a really easy route and half of it is a bike path. The total mileage for the day was 25 miles. It took us about 2.5 hours to get there and about 2 on the way back. This includes stopping for lunch on the way and for a couple "I think I'm going to die" breaks on the way back. The kids were great! The ride was a challenge for me physically especially at the end, but I am so glad I did it. Riding is getting easier and I'm amazed at how much I really can do!

For those who have cargo bikes, what is the farthest you have ridden with the kids in one day?

  2. Goooooo, Mama! You are super woman! I don't have my Bullitt yet but I carry both my boys (40 and 25 lbs) plus cargo on my regular bike outfitted with two seats and pannier. 20 miles is my limit. And it takes me about an 1:30 to 1:45 to ride 8-9 miles, including water/breathing breaks and stopping to walk up one giant hill I just can't pedal my butt over. I'm a bit nervous to see how a cargo bike affects my range, actually. But I worked myself up from 3 miles being the farthest I can go to 20 miles so I know I can work past it.

    1. You definitely can! And bc the bullitt is built for carrying kids I think you will find it easier to handle all of the weight.
